ABOUT THE LAB
Build the process that can keep learning.
Markets & Systems Research Lab is a founder-led systematic trading research program built around one conviction: durable progress comes from a disciplined research loop, not the search for one perfect EA.

SCIENTIST · RESEARCHER · SYSTEMATIC TRADER
Dr. Adebayo Ojo
Founder & Research Director, MSRLab
I trained as a physicist and geophysicist, completing a PhD in Geophysics and working across university teaching, postdoctoral research, government research, applied geophysics, and mineral exploration.
That work is built around difficult problems where truth is rarely directly observable: imperfect measurements, noise, uncertainty, competing models, and the constant danger of seeing what we want to see rather than what the evidence supports.
ONE RESEARCH INSTINCT · FOUR DOMAINS
From trading strategies to trading research.
My trading journey began with a familiar search: find the right indicator, optimize the right strategy, and discover the setup that works. Over time, successes, failures, beautiful backtests, and disappointing live results changed the question.
What market behaviour are we claiming exists—and what evidence would convince us that it is real?
A backtest is a model, not reality. Live trading is where the model encounters execution, changing regimes, and outcomes it did not get to rehearse.
Human-directed. AI-accelerated.
AI changes the experimental capacity available to one researcher. It does not remove the need for judgment.
Agents search, formalize ideas, write and inspect code, orchestrate tests, analyze evidence, preserve institutional memory, and challenge conclusions.
I direct the questions, interpret ambiguity, decide what evidence is sufficient, and retain control of live risk, capital, and material portfolio changes.
The portfolio changed the question.
Every edge has environments where it performs poorly. Trying to engineer every weakness out of one system often produces greater complexity and a better fit to history.
Not: how do I make this strategy perfect?
But: what useful role can it play inside a portfolio?
MSRLab develops different expressions of supported hypotheses, then asks whether their return drivers, instruments, timeframes, and weaknesses genuinely complement one another.
THE EXPERIMENT CONTINUES
From searching for the right strategy, to building a better way of doing the research.
I do not claim to have solved trading. What I have developed is a much clearer idea of how I want to search for answers: start with curiosity, form a hypothesis, challenge the result, quantify uncertainty, reject what does not survive, and retain what we learn.
